The 26th Southeast Asian Games

Asia, Indonesia

I intended to write this post a week ago. But because of this and that I haven’t got the chance to write. But, better late than never, right?

So, I just want to make a short post today about a sporting event which is being held in Indonesia at the moment. On November 11, 2011 (11-11-11), 11 Southeast Asian countries (Malaysia, Thailand, Vietnam, Singapore, The Philippines, Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar, Timor-Leste (East Timor), Brunei and host country Indonesia) compete in 11 days to gain hundreds of gold, silver and bronze medals to be the best in Southeast Asia’s largest multi-sport event, Southeast Asian Games (SEA Games). Indonesia itself has hosted the games for four times (including this edition), but this is the first time the games are held not in the capital, Jakarta. Instead they are held in one of the biggest cities on the island of Sumatra, Palembang. However Jakarta also supports Palembang for some venues.

To learn more about SEA Games, you can read it on Wikipedia. Meanwhile, here is a short video showing one of the chapters of arguably the most spectacular SEA Games opening ceremony ever (video courtesy of Indra Yudhistira on YouTube). I wish I were there!

Based in Jakarta, always curious about the world, always fascinated by ancient temples, easily pleased by food.

    • Southeast Asian Games you mean? 😉 because the upcoming Asian Games will be in Incheon, Korea in 2014..
But actually I really can’t wait for the next SEA Games in Myanmar in 2013. It will be the first time for Myanmar to host an international sporting event after decades of isolation..
